The challenge
Unitrade Plus sought to launch a line of sealants in a market crowded by international names such as Dap, Akfix and Loctite. The market was already crowded, so we were brought in to help the brand enter as an incumbent.
Our task
Create a Name & label design that would help the brand get traction in the market.
Our strategy
Create a label that was the opposite of what the market was used to.
The existing products in the trade was filled with info, photos and diagrams. They sought to educate users on how to use the products. We used that to our advantage and did the opposite.
The market was mature. Many users were educated, thanks to the efforts of large brands.
We created our product line to feature
- Simple packaging with bold colours.
- An oversized word mark logo. (40% of the label)
Essentially, turning each product into a billboard for the incumbent. The new kid on the BLOK.
The result:
Within 4 years, BLOK became the No.1 seller in the construction market in Jamaica. It’s constantly asked about.
Sales of competing brands remain low even when BLOK is out of stock
